Brisbane: City Hotels and Accommodation
Many people visiting Brisbane choose to stay in and around the city centre and hotels here are reasonably priced, including a number of budget options. Just 13 km / 8 miles south-west of Brisbane Airport (BNE), the city centre can become especially busy during local celebrations, such as the Brisbane International Film Festival every July, the 'Ekka' Royal National Agricultural Show in August, and the Livid Rock festival each October.
Hotels at these times of the year are quick to fill and advance reservations are advisable. Popular accommodation in the city centre includes the Tinbilly Hostel along George Street - which is particularly appealing to backpackers, the Explorer's Inn on Thornbury Street, and the Dahrl Court Apartments off Phillips Street.
Whilst a number of hotels can be found in the Central Business District, further accommodation lies outside of this area, within walking distance of many top attractions. Brisbane's inner suburbs are a lively part of the city, where you will find a host of bars, restaurants and hotels. Popular areas include Petrie Terrace and Paddington, with the small and extremely colourful Chinatown district located nearby.
To the north of Brisbane's Central Business District, Spring Hill is a particularly peaceful part of the city and offers a range of inexpensive accommodation, close to both downtown Brisbane and the Valley. On the southern side of the river you will find the West End area, which is known for its relaxed atmosphere and many highly regarded restaurants.
